OEGO ADMISSION CRITERIA

OEGO membership does not entail any right of practice.

ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR FULL MEMBERS:

Every person holding Austrian citizenship or whose normal place of residence is in Austria can become member of OEGO.

Additionally, training listed under 1 or 2 has to have been completed:

1. Postgraduate Training for medical personnel: 

Medical personnel: doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, midwives, ergo therapists. Full OEGO members having completed postgraduate training (for medical personnel) for osteopathy require work permit for Austrian medicinal professions. These need to be based on a medical profession with training requiring A-level or equivalent and provide the qualifications necessary for in-service osteopathic training.

Postgraduate training: Postgraduate training lasts over a minimum period of 5 -6 years with 1500 hours of compulsory attendance, graduating as DO, BSc Osteopathy or MSc Osteopathy. Passing of the final clinical exam is necessary, while holding a title is not a prerequisite for a membership.

2. Undergraduate training for non-medical personnel 

Full OEGO members not having completed medical training require A-level or equivalent as well as full-time undergraduate training for osteopathy. This training lasts over a minimum period of 4 – 5 years with 4200 hours of compulsory attendance providing DO, BSC Osteopathy, or MSc Osteopathy as title. Passing of the final clinical exam is necessary, while holding a title is not a prerequisite for a membership. A list of trainings recognized by OEGO can be obtained from here.

OEGO training criteria define a minimum of professional competences required for safe and effective osteopathic practice. Osteopaths need to possess a thorough knowledge of medical principles, medical diagnoses as well as osteopathic diagnosing and treatments, regardless of their osteopathic training career.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

Every person holding Austrian citizenship or whose normal place of residence is Austria and who are currently enrolled in any of the schools fulfilling the above-mentioned criteria, can become an associate member of OEGO.

HONORARY AND SUSTAINING MEMBERS

Honorary members are nominated for their outstanding contributions made towards the association. Sustaining members might be individuals assisting the OEGO cause by ideal, material or monetary support.

RIGHT TO RUN FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

All full members having obtained D.O. or MSc can run for the Board of Directors.
